Mesmerising May
As the seasons shift and the light changes, we’re reminded just how much beauty there is to be found in the everyday. At Kate Cledwyn Designs, every piece begins exactly there – in the world around us. Each design starts as a moment captured through Kate’s lens, then carefully transformed into fabric while preserving the original colours, textures, and atmosphere that made it special in the first place.

This month we’re delighted to introduce four new designs, each drawn from a different collection and each telling its own story.
From soft, nature-led tones to bolder, more expressive compositions, these new pieces reflect the diversity of inspiration that surrounds us – fleeting light, quiet waterscapes, unexpected details – all translated into timeless, versatile designs for your home, business and creative projects.

Time to Funk up your Furniture
As the calendar turns, many of us feel the familiar itch to refresh our homes. Not necessarily with a full renovation or a trolley dash through a furniture showroom, but with something more thoughtful: pieces that feel personal, layered, and alive with history.
As the calendar turns, many of us feel the familiar itch to refresh our homes not necessarily with a full renovation or a trolley dash through a furniture showroom, but with something more thoughtful: pieces that feel personal, layered, and alive with history.
This year’s interiors mood is less about perfection and more about personality – and few approaches capture that spirit better than the work and philosophy of artist and designer Kate Cledwyn, based near Fordingbridge, Hampshire. At the heart of this new-year mindset is the idea that a home should evolve, not reset. Rather than replacing everything, we’re being encouraged to bring things back to life, to mix art with utility, and to choose objects that have a story worth telling.
Upholstered Chairs: Comfort Meets Character
One of the simplest ways to change the feel of a room is through seating. Upholstered chairs, especially those that have been reworked or reimagined, add instant warmth and depth. Think of a well-loved frame revived with bold textile, or a classic silhouette given new relevance through unexpected colour or pattern.
Designers like Kate often treat furniture as a canvas – a chance to merge craftmanship with artistic expression. An upholstered chair becomes more than a place to sit; it becomes a conversation piece, carrying traces of its past while confidently belonging in the present.
Upcycling: A Second (or Third) Act
Upcycling continues to gain momentum, not as a trend but as a philosophy. It’s about seeing potential where others see the end of the line. Old wood becomes shelving, discarded metal becomes art, and worn furniture is reworked into something entirely new. When you bring an upcycled piece into your home, you’re not just decorating, you’re participating in a quiet act of renewal.
Bringing Things Back to Life
There’s something deeply satisfying about restoration. Refinishing a table, reupholstering a chair, or repairing a lamp rather than replacing it creates a connection between you and your space. These revived pieces often feel more ‘right’ than anything brand new.
In the new year, many homeowners are choosing fewer items, but better ones – objects that have been saved, reshaped, or lovingly repaired. They carry marks of time, and that’s exactly the point.
Products With a Story to Tell
What ties all of this together is storytelling. Homes are increasingly filled with pieces that prompt questions: ‘Where did this come from?’ ‘Who made it? Designers like Kate create work that invites those conversations, blending art, function, and history into singular objects.
As we step into the new year, the most inviting homes won’t be the most polished – they’ll be the most personal. By choosing pieces with meaning, embracing upcycling, and welcoming art into everyday spaces, we can create interiors that feel not just refreshed, but truly alive.
After all, a home isn’t just where you live. It’s where your stories – and the stories of the things you love – come together.
If you would like to come by in person, please feel free to make an appointment by contacting us at info@katecledwn.com or calling 07516 218780. We would love to see you!

Following their preview evening on August 15th and ten days of public exhibition, Kate Cledwyn Designs has concluded a standout showcase of sculptures, fabric designs and wall art with both critical and commercial success.
The preview evening welcomed collectors, designers and art enthusiasts who were among the first to experience both the existing and new body of Kate’s work. Taking place on a gloriously warm evening with canapes and drinks to fine-tune the event.
The exhibition, which ran for ten days, highlighted the artist’s innovative approach to form and texture, blending traditional craft with a contemporary edge.
The collection drew strong engagement, resulting in significant sales across multiple mediums. Several signature pieces were placed with private collectors, while the fabric designs gained interest from interested parties exploring exclusive designs and ideas.
‘The response was amazing and heartwarming’ said Kate ‘It’s been inspiring to see my work connect with people in different ways – from so much repeated and loyal support with collectors acquiring sculptures to designers envisioning new contexts for my fabric and wall art, I’m truly flattered’.
